Undulating Projection
The project offers a temporal shelter space created by undulating structure in order to interact with internal and external programme of De la Warr Pavilion. The structure is based on the modular system derived from pavilion, and the principle of pine cone, namely 'differential expansion', which gives a curvature to the structure. The curvature increases as the opening of the element is wider.
The ultimate form of structure was determined through experiments of materials, configurations, and 3D simulation models. As a result, the structure consists of laminate, non-laminated timber, and plastic, which play roles in foundation, enclosure, and enforcement/locking respectively.
The structure will promote the interaction between pavilion and the public by providing space for an exhibition and projection as well as social space to meet existing programme of the pavilion.
